What’s your why?

“Once you find your why, you will be able to find your way. Why is your purpose. Way is your path.”  ~John C. Maxwell

What type of life do you want to create? What is your why?

Determining your “why” is probably the most powerful determinant in manifesting your dreams.

I started seriously reflecting on this question several years ago. I was ending a relationship, transitioning into a new career, leaving my home and starting over. After being miserable for so many years, I just wanted to be happy.

We all just want to be happy, right?

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Clearly define your why . . .

Your purpose lies in the doing . . . for me, it existed in:

  • Building strong connections with loved ones and opening up to what life had in store for me.
  • Waking up each day and celebrating my health.
  • Looking forward to the adventures and challenges that lay before me every day, in work and in play.
  • Sharing my passion for learning and teaching; you never know it all and you can never learn enough.
  • Carving out time just for me in solitude with myself and my spirit.
Here I am hanging out with some marine iguanas during my tour of the Galapagos Islands. This adventure helped me fine tune my WHY.

So what does financial independence have to do with determining your WHY? It’s about empowerment and choice:

  • Retirement: It is no longer a matter of IF, but I decide WHEN to retire.
  • Travel: I determine how often I travel. Be it near or far, I am always up for an adventure!
  • Dining Out: It’s fun to tip the bill or treat others, even unsuspecting strangers, to a meal.
  • Being Charitable: I can afford to be charitable when my heart moves me.
  • Time: The biggest takeaway is I get to spend as much or as little time on the things that I care about.

I am not a slave to my money, but rather, use money as a tool for how I choose to spend my time.

Think about your own WHY.
